The meaning of life has been one of the most monumental and persistent of all questions posed by humanity since the cradle of our existence. From ancient Greek philosophers to modern day poets, the question has remained unwavering: Why are we here?
Though the question is simple, the answer has been anything but. As varied as the cultures and minds that have asked "Why?", the meaning of life is as much about perspective as it is about belief. To some, our purpose is conveniently straight forward and simple. To many others, the answer is often elusive or fleeting. The only true consensus it seems, is that there is complete lack of one.
With the absence of a unifying answer, tackling the meaning of life poses a challenging endeavor. So rather than attempting to approach the question as absolute, we thought what better idea than to tap into the collective wisdom of our own society as a whole. As such, we have made it our mission to ask Seattlites from one hundred different walks of life for their personal answers to the big question.
We realize that our task is quite daunting, but we've already drawn up a list of the various individuals and professions that represent a sample of society. Our hope is to be able to find and interview at least half of the 100 individuals over the next year, though we can't make any promises.
Currently, the status of our project is that we're examining our own networks and contacts to locate people that are interested in sharing their personal views on the meaning of life. In the next two months, we hope to begin posting our interviews or responses, so please check back often in the future!
If you or someone you know qualifies as one of the professions listed on this page and wish to participate in our project, please contact us! Let us know a little bit about yourself and your interest and we will be happy to get back to you.
